President

Dylan Olson, President is actively involved in all company operations. He oversees daily operations. Dylan grew up in and around steel construction and apprenticed with the Field Ironworkers as a summer job while in college. After graduating from the University of Arizona, he worked as the General Manager for a start-up company that manufactured turnkey micro breweries throughout the United States. In 1995, Dylan joined Meddco Metals as an Estimator and Project Manager. Over the next several years he assumed additional responsibilities in production, operations and information technology. He also oversaw the building of the San Leandro office and fabrication plant in 2002. He became Vice President of Operations for the company in 2003 and was brought in as a partner in 2005. Dylan holds a B.S. degree in Economic Geography from the University of Arizona at Tucson and is currently participating in the following professional organizations.

Brian Thomas

Brian Thomas

Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer

Brian Thomas, Brian joined Olson Steel in November 2021. He currently serves as the Company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.  Brian started his construction career as a Field Ironworker in the Seattle area. He worked his way up through the levels of management, spending 24 years with Skanska USA Building. In his last role at Skanska, he was a Senior Vice President responsible for West Coast operations in the Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles markets. Brian also served as the Subject Matter Expert for Skanska’s Self Perform Division which included Rough Carpentry, Concrete Placement, Operators, Rebar Installation and Structural Steel Erection.

Prior to Joining Olson Steel, Brian was a Executive Vice President of Tutor Perini Building Corporation, overseeing all West Coast Operations and national project pursuits.

Brian is a community leader who is actively engaged in the Construction industry. He has previously served on the board of the Cypress Mandela training center and Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) for the Field Ironworkers Local 86.

He currently holds the California Class B Contractors License and the California C-51 Structural Steel Erection License.

Kevin Cullen, Chief Financial Officer. Kevin oversees all financial aspects of the organization, Human Resources, Real Estate, and Information Technology. He has a diverse background in construction and manufacturing and has extensive experience with system implementations and financial oversight. Prior to joining Olson & Co. Steel, he was Chief Financial Officer and part owner for MDC Vacuum Products and is currently a Founding Board of Director for California Bank of Commerce, and serves as the Chairman of the Director’s Loan Committee. From 1990 to 1998, Kevin was employed by Bank of America, NT&SA. Kevin has a B.A degree from the University of Pacific.

Executive Vice President and Director of Corporate Enhancement

Tom Fluehr, Tom Fluehr joined Olson Steel in 2005. He served as the Company’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Operations Officer until 2021. Prior to joining Olson Steel, Tom was a Vice-President of OHM Corporation, the nation’s leading environmental remediation firm. As a region manager, his responsibilities included mergers and acquisitions, full-scale business integrations and full P&L control. Prior to OHM, Tom worked for Bechtel Group, Inc., a leading international engineering-construction firm in both operating and financial roles. Tom’s positions in project management as well as field roles in procurement, construction and startup capacities, provided broad line management experience. In addition, Tom had senior roles in Bechtel Construction, the company’s project and operations arm.
