EXECUTIVE TEAM

Dave Olson's career with Olson Steel began in 1970 as a Project Manager and Estimator.  He progressed to the position of Chief Operations Officer in 1995.  In 2002, Dave became the President and CEO as well as the sole owner of the company.  Dave’s business career has included founding and/or leading several corporations engaged in diverse businesses including real estate and shipyard and boat building.  Through his business enterprises, Dave has been involved in major West Coast and Texas building construction projects, nuclear and alternative energy projects, classic and speed boat design and construction.  He was also one of the early investors and a member of the Board of Directors of Cyra Technologies, a high technology laser scanning and software company.  Dave is a well know San Francisco Bay Area businessman and philanthropist.  He has served on KFF’s Board of Directors since 2002 and currently serves as its Treasurer and a member of its Heritage Committee.  During the last fifteen years, he has served in many capacities including director and trustee of organizations including the Tahoe Maritime Museum, the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation, the Ironworkers International Apprentice Trust, the Western Steel Council, Orinda community fundraising committees and the San Leandro Vocational Education Committee.  Dave holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California.

Dylan Olson is President Olson Steel.  He oversees daily operations.  Dylan grew up in and around steel construction and apprenticed with the Field Ironworkers as a summer job while in college.  After graduating from the University of Arizona, he worked as the General Manager for a start-up company that manufactured turnkey micro breweries through the United States.  In 1995, Dylan joined Meddco Metals as an Estimator and Project Manager.  Over the next several years he assumed additional responsibilities in production, operations and information technology.  He also oversaw the building of the San Leandro office and fabrication plant in 2002.  He became Vice President of Operations for the company in 2003 and was brought in as a partner in 2005.  Dylan holds a B.S. degree in Economic Geography from the University of Arizona at Tucson.

Tom Fluehr joined Olson Steel in late 2005 and is currently serving as the Company’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Operations Officer.  Prior to joining Olson Steel, Tom was a Vice-President of OHM Corporation, the nation's leading environmental remediation firm.  As a region manager, his responsibilities included mergers and acquisitions, full-scale business integrations and full P&L control.  Prior to OHM, Tom worked for Bechtel Group, Inc., a leading international engineering-construction firm in both operating and financial roles.  Tom's positions in project management as well as field roles in procurement, construction and startup capacities, provided broad line management experience.  In addition, Tom had senior roles in Bechtel Construction, the company's project and operations arm.  Tom received his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
